Types of Hearing Aids

Behind-the-Ear

The behind-the-ear hearing aids are very light, very small and almost invisible when you wear them.

These types of hearing aids come in two variations: Receiver in the ear, or sound tube.

The behind-the-ear hearing aids accommodate for all types of hearing loss. Depending on the severity of your loss, most BTE devices come with either a comfortable ear mould, or a dome which fits into the ear canal.

In-the-Canal

Hearing aids placed in the ear canal are customised to the individual shape of your ear and are suitable for mild to moderate hearing loss. The shape and size of your ear canal determines if you’re able to use these types of hearing aids and also how visible they are.

There are 3 types of in-the-ear models:

  • IIC: Invicisble in the canal (sits deep in the canal)

  • ITE/ITC: In the ear/canal (sits in the visible part of your ear)

  • CIC: Completely in the canal (placed further into the canal)
